I just recieved my 2m/1.25m radio and I couldn't be happier. Everyone I have talked to has given me a great report. It was a snap to program with the software or via direct entry, and Ed was very helpful with the order. The fact that you can use PayPal to pay for your items without having to set up an account with them is great. Thanks Ed, and I'll send all my friends your way! Great radio.

I bought this radio on Nov,21 2010 at the JARSFest. This is by far the best dual band ht I have ever owned! I bought the programming cable and downloaded the software and had two of them programmer in no time .
It is the best bang for the buck out there and I highly recommend this ht for both the newly licensed and long time ham operators.
There are not enough words to describe how great this radio is!

Wonderful!
By Peter
My friend, Mike (K4WAT) talked me into buying one of these radios. I'm so glad he did! I ordered the 2m/220 radio to try out 220, and have been enjoying it. Amazing recieve, great transmit audio, especially with the hand mic. 1700mh battery was a good choice too. Can go for 2 days without a recharge. Thanks Ed! I'll be back!

Great Value
By William
I purchased the KG-UV2D HT on 11-19-2010 and most of it's accessories. The programming software makes it very easy to set up a lot of repeaters and simplex channels with almost not effort. I use the phone with a 5/8's mobile whip in my car and a J-Pole at my house and am really pleased with the number of repeaters I can get into. This is the best value for the money invested that I have run into. Great Radio. Bill K4HVH

Great Radio
By Kirk
I recently received my KG-UV2D. What a great radio. Side by side with my big name quad band HT, the KG-UV2D got the best reports. In fact the others were telling me to go back to it. The radio is very easy to use. I am an Amateur Extra and a commercial radio technician and can say that this is a good radio. The programming is simple, easier than some commercial programming, and there are just enough features. On my big name quad bad HT there is just to much push this, turn this, jump on the right foot while raising your left hand (you know what I mean). Now to think you get all this radio for just over a $100!!!!! You can't beat it. Looking forward to trying out the mobile.

Pretty Good Deal
By Tom
Bought 2m/70cm version for XYL. Found programming to not be intuitive and software not much better. Once I figured out their system, all was well and I can program the rig very quickly. Transmit and receive audio is excellent! Price is right! Other features are strange, but useful. All in all, a pretty good deal!

I bought this radio for Christmas and I am extremely happy with it. The reception is great, the sound is clear. The software is a must for programing your favorite channels and programing long lists. The 1700ma battery gave me 2 days of standby before the radio complained. All the accessories work well to accent this radio.
I look forward to the mobile unit release

Great little radio
By Michael
While looking for my first HT, I found good reviews for the Wouxun on eHam and QRZ. Ed shipped my order the next day and I was pretty excited to see it so quickly. I had it programmed and running in less than an hour. I've had good reports on my signal and audio and can hit the local repeater from a good distance with the stock antenna. I’m really enjoying this radio. Thank you Ed.

I just received my HT today in the mail. Like others have said I couldn't be any happier. With its nice array of features, cool look and ruggedness, I have to say this is one of the best HT's I have ever owned! Who cares about that winter storm Ed, it was totally worth the wait! Hope to do business again soon!

I purchased this handheld after hearing it on the air. I work for the Govt., and have used this radio outside of the ham bands to communicate with various other agencies and it worked well there too. While I could nitpick about a few small things, the real bottom line is that I feel that this is the best radio I have ever purchased in my LIFE when you factor in the price. When you compare the price of this radio to others with the same capabilities, it is hard to believe this radio is for real. Well believe me, it is for real and it works as advertised.

Wouxun UV2D 1700mah version
By Daniel
Just got the new version ED is selling, with the 1700mah battery and firmware upgrade. Love it to death. Had it about a week and it picks up every repeater within 30miles from my living room and default antenna. Plus it scans the police, county and anything else I need it to. It has a few quirks but nothing that you cant learn to do.
|
All I can say is WOW!
By Leslie
Great little radio! All kinds of neat features like a built in flashlight and a "SOS" frequency. Programs via computer program very easy. Took a little while to learn the manual programming but once I learned the system it is now a breeze to program. My wife and friends now want one of their own.

Definitely a Keeper
By Ed
Number six was received yesterday, 2/11/2011. Thanks for the expedited service. Five of the radios are to be door prizes at the Indy Hamfest, this July. The sixth- was for evaluation be me! I was going to use it enough to get familiar with what I was giving as prizes, then sell it at the forthcoming Columbus Hamfest. But, having used it for a few days, I have decided that it is definitely a keeper. I haven't done all measurements, but a quick check on my IFR service monitor showed it to be exactly on frequency, and
proper deviation. And, the battery life is nothing short of amazing. I can carry it all day, having several contacts, and still have some reserve left.
I am grateful to have a good distributor here stateside, and hope that you continue to represent Wouxun for a very long time. Feel
free to use any excerpts of this message you like on your testimonial page.

I just got my KG-UV2D. It is more than I expected. The size is perfect, the display is easily readable, the buttons are not tiny, it is really very easy to operate. It is the best of the commercial radio design and the best of the amateur radio designs without all the unnecessary bells and whistles that are really not needed. The audio quality is excellent on receive and I am told that the tx. audio though is a little boxy is loud and clear. I am thrilled with this radio. Ed ships as fast as he can and is always ready to help. This radio could put people back on 220 with no problem. Thanks again Ed for bringing a fine radio to the US.

I am a volunteer firefighter-EMT and also work full time in our local hospital's Public Safety and Communications department.I bought this radio as a back up for my Fire radio and the hospital's walkie that we keep in the comm room. I haven't found anywhere in the county that this radio won't hit a repeater and it works great on the 400 side inside a seven story steel frame hospital building (and I'm in the basement). If I had known about this radio a year ago I probably would have bought it as my primary radio over my Icom F50V. I highly recommend this radio to anyone who is looking for a good dependable radio that won't break the bank.

Real reviews, wonderful radio and great service.
By George
I thought this site looked kind of odd BUT these are real reviews by real customers. You can find me on QRZ.com my call sign is KF7OCD. Anyways these radios are wonderful and even though this site may look a little bit amateur the radios this seller sells are FRESH. Also the customer service is first rate. I had to wait a few extra days to get my radios because of a delivery delay however I was kept in the know by email and all my questions were answered very quickly.

Thank you VERY much and try my best to get some serious business your way!!!

Great Radio
By Robert
I ordered three KG-UV2D radios for the Ham bands and public safety work. The radio works great. It has a sensitive receiver and good quality audio. The only problem I had was getting Windows 7 to find the programming port. Had to use an XP machine to program the radios. The radio is a great buy and you will not be disappointed. Thanks Ed for your quick response to my questions and fast shipping.

KG-VU2D great radio
By Thomas
Simply put, The software makes it real simple, Keypad programming takes more time but is not that bad. The menus are not overlay after overlay, pretty straight forward. actually its easier than my Icom s. Can't wait for the mobile, now that looks promising. Great service from Ed.
I'd recommend this to not one but all my ham friends.

This was my first HT after I got my Tech ticket. Could not be happier. Great signal reports and the older battery lasts a good 3-4 days on a charge (95% Rx/5% Tx). I can't wait to see how long the newer battery lasts. The LED flashlight has come in handy a few times. I replace the stock rubber duckie with a Diamond RH-77CA (BNC). Seems to get better coverage. I can now hit a repeater 30+ miles away from within my house. The other cool feature is the FM radio.

I ordered the 2m/70cm model. It has exceeded my expectations. It is the best buy for the money. I needed a new HT but did not have alot to spend. I don't regret my purchase. It is a solid feeling little radio. It does just what I need it to do. And you just can't beat the price.

Adequate
By Gary
Critical review here. The radio is nicely built and adequate for most needs. However:
Why the FM Broadcast Band in a communications transceiver? It would have made more sense to have included the aircraft band.
The antenna SMA connector is FEMALE. You must get an adapter to connect any other antenna. Very strange.
So far,it appears that programming software is not compatible with Windows 7. You must use XP.
Note from Ed: While FM may be odd, many people really like that feature. Aircraft is out of the question because it's AM. Including that would greatly add to the costs. The SMA Female connector is used with many brands of commercial radios, including Motorola. After all, these are Part 90 radios. As for software, it works fine with all versions of Windows. The problems are caused by Windows itself. Its self-assignment of com ports is usually the biggest.

I bought my KG-UV2D as my first radio about 3 mo. ago and am very pleased with the radio & Ed's customer service. I've had no difficulty programming it with Wouxun's software and also with the new Commander software and an Excel spreadsheet (on the Yahoo Wouxun group). Bob KK4ATB

Nice Radio
By Carl
Got caught up in the frenzy buying at Dayton and purchased the KG-UV2D.
Out of the box was trying to get to work. The menu system is pretty different. But now that I have RTFM it is pretty easy.
Could not get the unit to work with the USB programming cable with Widows 7 64 bit. I downloaded the Vista Driver for the Prolific Chip set and it is working now.
For $105, radio, and programming cable it was a great deal at Dayton!!!

The best choice for new Hams
By ray
I got my call in March 2011 and I was referred to Ed by another Ham. I bought the radio before taking the exam. Using this radio now for about 4 months and without any bias or experience with any other brand, I can tell you that my experience has been nothing short of Awesome. First; With Ed, you cannot go wrong. Listen...you can get things cheaper, sure, but can you put a price on great service and answered emails and phonecalls? I put a high value on those things and I will only buy from Ed. The radio was very easy to set-up and continues to perform at a very high level. Recently, I volunteered to work a rest station for a bike-a-thon and there were two other hams with me. One had a Yaesu and the other had a Kenwood. The Yaesu needed an external mag mount stuck to a metal sign and the Kenwood really did not work to well, close to the bldg. My Wouxun worked very very well. Only one dropout the whole day and probably because I was getting close to changing batt packs.
Go over to YouTube and look for my channel: 92Scalloped and you will see a number of my video's breaking down the KG-UV2D. If you're new, you will get something from the video's. In summary...The Wouxun is a great value and an awesome dual band HT. What makes it better? A Dealer (Ed) who really stands behind what he does. Even the accessories are reasonable AND Ed shipped all of mine, on different orders, FAST and no charge for shipping. Buy the radio from Ed...you will be writing one of these just like me!

I love this radio
By Robert
I have had this radio now 5 months. I got to say I love it. I first got this radio to replace my VX-7R that grew legs and walked off. I am very impressed with this little radio.
First it is low cost. It has very good RX and TX. The topper for me is the built in speech which is great for some one like me who has bad eyes.
You can not go wrong with this radio.

Good Dual Band HT
By Jay
I bought my first Wouxun from Ed after seeing them at the 2010 Dayton Hamvention. Mine was 1 firmware revision older than the current ones he sells, but since I keep the battery voltage displayed upon power up, the customizable welcome screen isn't that important to me. The radio is still working fine, and I've had experience with other Chinese HT's, and so far, the Wouxun KG-UV2D is the best I've used. To be honest, it's not in the same league as a Yaesu FT-60R, but, you're paying about half the price for this one. The LED light is handy, and the FM broadcast receiver is good if you're waiting for net traffic. It will do what you need it to do, it can be programmed in the field, and buying it from Wouxun.us gives you good product stupport. This radio is far better than the HYS dual band HT I'm "testing", in features, firmware, and build quality. I liked the Wouxun radio so much, that I bought a 2nd one at Dayton 2011.

Amazing for what it is!
By T. Joseph
You can spend far more on an HT than the Wouxun radios, but you won’t get more for your money. As a new ham, I was looking for an affordable place to start, and this is it. I’ve seen more sensitive radios out there, but they aren’t HTs with stock antennas. I’ve seen more selective radios out there, but nowhere near this price range. Picks up noise on 2m when it’s too close to my computer or a fan, but otherwise excellent performance all around. Add Ed’s already legendary service and the Wouxun becomes a no-brainer. Get yourself a SMA-F coupler so you can use "normal" antennas.

Well worth the price
By Ron
It's not a full-featured milspec everything and the kitchen sink wonder radio, but it ain't PRICED like one either.
Works fine for what it is--a basic featured, low-cost HT. Has everything you NEED (e.g., tx/rx VHF and UHF) and pretty much nothing you don't (gingerbread crap that drives up the price).
If I want a miracle of modern technology, I will get a droid or I-phone or whatever those thigamagigys are called right now. If you want a decent basic dual band radio for a GREAT price, this works fine.
Looking forward to getting my mitts on the Baifeng UV3R. Not expecting much, but didn't pay much either!
Thanks Ed, for bring options to the table other than the $450 dual band HTs...

Excellent HT!

I have three now :) I sold my Icom HTs. I recently won a Yaesu VX-7r at a hamfest... I use it; but always go back to the Wouxun. I never have regretted my choice for the Wouxun to replace all my HTs. I extensively use mine for Satellite work... they do the job for sure!!! Durable, good transmit and receive audio. All around winner!

UNBELIEVABLE SERVICE!
By Shawn
I acquired my ham General licence MONTHS ago, and just now bought a radio... the KG-UV2D. I've read nothing but great reviews on this little guy and decided to throw the dice - WOW! Not only is it easy to operate (once you get used to the manual), it's straight-forward programming either via PC or on the unit manually. And TALK ABOUT SERVICE! I feel Ed Griffin is one of the few remaining retailers who ACTUALLY UNDERSTANDS CUSTOMER SERVICE! He's kindly and promptly fielded all of my questions, but I ordered the radio online Friday 9/23... it was in my hands on Monday 9/26! (your results may vary). I spoke on it for the first time tonight, and with the stock antenna at 13 miles away I was speaking through 2 different repeaters w/ a SAR teammate (both on our handhelds and both in our vehicles, and got through loud and clear; as did he to me. If you're on the fence about this radio, you're at the RIGHT WEBSITE; GO FOR IT!! Thanks again Ed!

Excellent HT
By Gordon
My first HT was a Yaesu. The menu system was very complicated, so I sold it. The KG-UV2D is everything the Yaesu should have been. I can't get the USB port to talk to the radio, but this isn't Wouxun's fault. I do recommend that any user buy a soft or hard case for the unit, as exposed power connectors (brass buttons) in rain do not inspire confidence. Thanks Ed for doing everything right in sales and service. Gordon Cooper-KE7RYM

A Fine Radio & Excellent Customer Service
By Dave
I've had mine about four months. Its easy to program and performs exactly as advertised. We'll see how it stands up over time however I do expect it to last a while based on reviews from other club members who've been using them for years. I am a new amateur and was looking for a low cost HT to get started and this radio fit the bill, and I didn't need to search too hard to find many great reviews about the radio and the man who makes this company's customer support stand out in a very competitive industry. Thanks Ed...
|
If I Could Give the KG-UV2D a "10" I Would
By William
I've owned and used many handheld radios over the years: Motorola, GE, Hy-Gain, Standard - you name it, I've used it in ham or commercial. When you factor in performance and then look at the rock-bottom price, the Wouxun radios have no competition. I bought the first one after a ham
friend let me try his out - I was so impressed with the radio (used it as my mobile on a trip to California in April) that I bought the XYL one for her birthday. She is as happy with her KG-UV2D as I am. Next purchase (after the much-delayed KG-UV920R) will be a 2M/220 model. I hate to say this, but on 70CM the KG-UV2D has a better receiver than my Kenwood TM-D710A (2M is just about equal).
I'd make a few recommendations: 1) GET THE PROGRAMMING CABLE. Programming the radio from the keyboard can be done but it IS a pain. I got the serial cable and use it with a serial~USB adaptor: this way you're covered for any type of computer you may need to use (think Field Day or emergency deployment). The factory software is "OK" but Jim Mitchell's KG-UV Commander is superior (most "factory" programming software leaves a lot to be desired, so Wouxun is not the Lone Ranger in that department). 2) Get the BNC antenna adaptor and use it all the time. When you mount the adaptor put a small O ring the size of the SMA portion on the adaptor before you install it - that will provide a water-tight seal. Use a BNC antenna or a BNC adaptor for mobile use. Think of that adaptor as a "socket saver" - if it wears out, it is FAR easier to change the adaptor
than the antenna jack in the radio!! I'm using the MFJ 1715 15" dualband flex antenna with mine (Linda wanted the shorter MFJ that is the same
length as the Wouxun antenna) and both work well. 3) If you're going to use the radio mobile, get the speaker/mic. Audio is better and mic is
better at eliminating extranous noise than the mic in the radio.
Don't snear at some of the features of this radio either: I didn't think I'd use either the FM broadcast feature or the built-in flashlight but
I've found BOTH very handy. I was surprised at how much light that one LED throws off, and the FM radio is handy for listening to the small FM
transmitter I have attached to my laptop so I can hear internet radio stations around the house while monitoring the local repeaters.
As I said in my title, if I could give the KG-UV2D 10 stars I would - and 3 of those extra stars would be awarded for Ed's EXCELLENT customer service. He is a great guy to deal with and a real credit to Wouxun and to ham radio. I was not surprised to hear that Ed has sold in excess of 10,000 of these radios - a GREAT radio & a great dealer.
